In addition, some patients clench their teeth or hold their jaws in an improper position unconsciously during sleep, which could mean that you awaken in the middle of the night with a seemingly inexplicable toothache.
  • Cavities. One of the top offenders for any type of toothache is decay. If bacteria or acidic substances erode the outer layers of your tooth, its inner workings may become more tender and vulnerable, creating a sore sensation.
