Starting next week, Latin Bites Café, located downtown, is celebrating Wine Wednesdays with 50 percent off wine bottles all day. You can enjoy delicious South American cuisine while sipping complementing white and red wines. Wine can be a delicious addition to a fine meal, but what about its effect on your teeth? This week, we’ll give you tips on how to maintain a gorgeous white smile (while still having fun at Wine Wednesdays).
What Causes Discoloration?
Wine isn’t the only thing that can stain your teeth. Tea, soda, coffee, and tobacco can darken your smile. Plaque build-up can also cause yellowing. In addition, certain medications, excessive fluoride, and aging can discolor your teeth. There is no one perfect tooth color, but many people feel that whiter, brighter teeth improve the look of their smile. Of course, regular brushing, flossing, and professional dental cleanings can help keep your smile beautiful, but we also offer more targeted whitening solutions.
We offer two different whitening treatments at our office. For patients who want a professional in-house whitening, we use the sophisticated Zoom! Advanced Power system. Dr. Flanagan is part of a select group of dentists who can use this cutting-edge treatment, which was developed by a former NASA scientist. This procedure can whiten your smile up to ten shades in about an hour, with no anesthesia required. Zoom! Advanced Power’s patented bleaching gel and blue plasma light combine for excellent results. Once you have finished this treatment, we’ll give you a touch-up kit.
For patients who would rather complete all of their whitening at home, we also create customized trays and provide a high-quality bleaching formula. You should notice a whiter smile in just a few days and can reapply it whenever you need (perhaps when you get home from Latin Bites Café).
For patients with stains that don’t respond to whitening treatments or those who want to address a variety of cosmetic issues at once, porcelain veneers are a great option. Many celebrities use porcelain veneers to create dazzling smiles. Veneers are thin shells that cover the front and occasionally sides of your teeth to cover any imperfections. Their white shells will immediately correct the color of your teeth. We use Empress porcelain, known for its natural look and superior strength. Porcelain veneers are comfortable, durable, and – most importantly for Wine Wednesdays aficionados – stain-resistant.
Porcelain veneers usually take only two appointments to place on your teeth. Dr. Flanagan will work with you to create the color, shape, and style of veneers you prefer. We can help show you how your porcelain veneers will look with digital imaging or a diagnostic wax-up, so you’ll know exactly what to expect from your new smile. During your first visit, we will prepare your teeth and fit you with temporary veneers while our lab creates your final set. In addition to improving the shade of your teeth, porcelain veneers can also correct orthodontic issues, lengthen shorter teeth, and close any gaps.
